Bestman speeches are difficult to get right and most men struggle when they find out they have to do it. Being given the role by a close friend is one of the most honourable things that can happen to you and it shows a great deal of trust from a friend. It is absolutely essential that you get it right.

Having delivered a speech once before I can tell you I was petrified. My nerves started to get the best of me a few weeks before the big day and I had no idea what to say. I was lucky I was prepared though as it gave me the time to figure out what I should say.

The first thing I would recommend is to get everything down on paper. Do not worry about the order of things or how you will fit it all in. Just start writing and you can order it all later. Getting past the stage of staring at a blank piece of paper or an empty computer screen should come first.

When you have got a number of ideas down you should start to think about the order and tone. A good example would be to mix in some emotional and touching stories with some good jokes. Make sure they are not going to offend people but something that everyone can appreciate.

Also be sure not to focus only on the groom. Most bestman speeches avoid mentioning the bride but if you can tell some stories about the couple then you will have the whole audience paying attention.

The speech is something you really need to get right so make sure you prepare in advance and make the effort as the bride and groom and their families will genuinely appreciate you for it.
