For the bride and groom and even their families the wedding day is one of the best moments in your life. People remember their wedding day their whole lives and these days they are often recorded for all time to be watched back in years to come.

It is for these reasons that the wedding speeches take on a great deal of importance and should be taken seriously. They are one of the most important aspects of the day and whether you are best man, father of the bride or one of the couple, you should do your best to make the speech memorable.

Firstly, you should start getting your thoughts written down. Procrastination is typical with speech writing but the earlier you get started the more time you have to prepare.

Select the most memorable parts. You will want to keep the best bits such as funny moments or a time that shows the couple in their best light.

Avoid anything offensive. Consider that there will be a lot of people listening and they will be of all ages. Try to make any jokes inclusive of everybody and do not bring up anything like old partners or serious problems.

Thank the family. Spend a moment thanking the families for helping make the occasion so great and also say how great a couple the bride and groom are. If you are one of the couple then say how happy you are to be able to spend your life with your partner.

Copy from the best. Do not be afraid of using a great joke to end. It does not really matter if other people have heard it before, the classics are often the best.
